Milan vs Genoa
Genoa sits precariously in 18th and four points adrift of safety after winning just one of their last 29 Serie A encounters. That is relegation form in anyone’s books, and now they’re facing a trip to face league leaders Milan at the San Siro on Friday night. The Rossoneri is on a 10-match unbeaten run and has kept a clean sheet in each of their last five outings. On a night when city rivals Inter could leapfrog them, Milan can’t afford any slip-ups and they’ll oblige with all three points.
Southampton vs Arsenal
The Saints have lost four in five, the most recent being a six-goal thumping at the hands of Chelsea. This was the 12th occasion they have been beaten by 3+ goals under Austrian tactician Ralph Hasenhuttl since he took charge in December 2018. Arsenal’s knack for scoring early goals has abandoned them in recent weeks with three defeats in their last four at the worst possible time in their quest to make the top four, but they should return to winning ways against a generous Saints defence.
Man City vs Liverpool
England’s juggernauts are getting to know one another a lot better of late. Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp’s teams played out a high-quality 2-2 draw in the Premier League last weekend, and now they met again at Wembley with a place in the FA Cup final at stake. The Reds drew 3-3 in midweek with Benfica and advanced 6-4 on aggregate to this season’s Champions League semifinals. City did it the hard way with an ill-tempered, hard-fought 0-0 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid to book their own place in the semifinals, 1-0 on aggregate. That result came at a cost though, with both Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker coming off injured. De Bruyne especially would be a huge miss, considering his sparkling recent form and ability to make decisive contributions against the best sides.
Liverpool rested seven of their leading lights against Benfica. Van Dijk, Robertson, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Thiago, Mané and Salah will all return. Salah has seven goals in 14 appearances against City so he’ll be raring to go. Ahead of this game, Liverpool seems to have the physical edge over City, but it would be no surprise to see this semifinal go all the way, with the last two Wembley H2Hs in 2016 and 2019 being settled by penalties.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace
Patrick Vieira’s Eagles have made a habit of starting matches brightly, scoring 70% of their league goals going back to mid-February in the first half. With Chelsea’s young superstar duo Kai Havertz and Mason Mount in top goalscoring form, and Wilf Zaha enjoying arguably the best season of his Palace career, there’s plenty of attacking threat on show. We could have a capital classic on our hands.
Bayer Leverkusen vs RB Leipzig
Leipzig will be buoyed by an excellent display in Bergamo where they got the better of Atalanta to reach this season’s Europa League semifinals. A 2-0 success away to one of Europe’s most improved teams is no fluke, and now Leipzig can leapfrog Leverkusen into third on the Bundesliga standings with a win before they prepare for a DFB-Pokal semifinal against Union Berlin and a Europa League final four clash with Rangers of Scotland.
Christopher Nkunku struck both of Leipzig’s goals against Atalanta, taking his season tally to 30 across all competitions, a remarkable number for one of Europe’s hottest property players. When the big sides in the Bundesliga meet there are usually goals. Leverkusen lost 5-1 to Bayern, their two games against Borussia Dortmund each featured seven goals, and they won 3-1 at Leipzig.
As for Leipzig, they recently lost 3-2 at Bayern and won 4-1 at Dortmund, and their other game against Bayern ended in a 4-1 loss. Prepare for Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick (20) and Christopher Nkunku (17) to add to their respective Bundesliga goal tallies here.
Sevilla vs Real Madrid
Sevilla holds the only remaining unbeaten home record in LaLiga, with 11 wins and five draws, but they’ve failed to score in three of their last four matches across all competitions. Visitors Real Madrid can inch ever closer to the title with a win and we’re backing them to do just that, and storm former manager Julen Lopetegui’s fortress in the process.
