BREAKING: Struggling Burnley sack Sean Dyche

Burnley have dismissed manager Sean Dyche, with the team fighting for Premier League survival.

Dyche, who took over as manager in October 2012, leaves his team in 18th, four points behind 17th-placed Everton.

“Results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status,” said the chairman, Alan Pace.

“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”

On Sunday, Burnley travel to West Ham.

They had lost five of their previous six matches, winning one against Everton, and their defeat at bottom-placed Norwich last weekend pushed the board to make the hard decision.

Dyche promoted the team twice from the Championship, accomplished two top-half Premier League finishes, and qualified Burnley for Europe for the first time in 51 years during his tenure.

He was the Premier League’s longest-serving manager — a title he will relinquish to Jürgen Klopp, who took over as Liverpool manager in October 2015.
